Coquetdale Archive Films released on DVD
Coquetdale Vintage Film Launch
Fans of vintage film will want to be at the Jubilee Hall, Rothbury on Sunday 29th Septemberat 7.30pm when two new DVD’s saved from a unique archive get their first screening in over thirty years.
“Sett for Sunday” and “Coquet Past and Present”, which are to be screened, are just two of six complete DVDs that were produced by the Upper Coquetdale Film Group on 16 mm film to record the characters, way of life and legends of the valley from the 1960s onwards.
Technology moved on and the reels languished in sheds and lofts until they were saved for posterity by volunteers; catalogued and digitized to broadcast standard, and made available as DVD’s with a grant from Northumberland National Park Authority.
The film group are now in their later years themselves and are no longer active, but proceeds of sales will go to keeping the archive alive through distribution and screenings. The group do not charge for screenings but donations will be very welcome and a hat will be passed round on the night.
DVDs are available online from www.northern-heritage.co.uk , at visitor information centres and at National Park information office outlets. The full set will also be on sale at Rothbury screening and the Alwinton Show on October 12th .
